Sunderland were in EFL Cup action but the Stadium of Light side succumbed on penalties.

A number of Sunderland fans have been commenting on Twitter about last night’s performance in the EFL Cup and one of the Black Cats players who found himself under scrutiny was Max Power.
The 26-year-old was largely anonymous throughout the game and struggled in front of goal, in particular when he inexplicably fired wide from close range after a Marc McNulty cutback into his path.
Earlier in the game, McNulty struck the post, and not long after, Oxford countered and took the lead through Rob Hall, although the Black Cats forward did get his side back into the game to take it to penalties.
The hosts, however, maintained a perfect record from the spot, while Will Grigg fired over and McNulty saw his effort saved to put Phil Parkinson’s side out of the cup – though Power did redeem himself a little with a good spot kick.
