Sunderland moved into second in League One, but missed a chance to take a bigger step towards automatic-promotion.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Luke O’Nien’s performance during the Black Cats’ 1-1 draw with Burton Albion at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.

Jack Ross’ men moved themselves into the top two in League One, but missed the chance to move three points clear of Barnsley in third as they were held by the Brewers.

Tom Flanagan put the ball through his own net 19 minutes in before Jack Baldwin equalised eight minutes later. Sunderland still have a game in hand over the Tykes and go into their final six fixtures one point clear.

Once again, O’Nien started at right-back on Tuesday. And it appears that his performance divided supporters, with most coming away from the game being quite critical of the 24-year-old, who was making his 19th league start of the season.

O’Nien seemed to struggle to cope with Marcus Harness throughout the contest, and some of the fans feel that it may be time to stop using the versatile midfielder in that position.

However, there are also some supporters who have praised the impact that O’Nien has made in that right-back role, and have slammed those who have criticised the former Wycombe man following the draw.
