Sunderland have suffered another blow after Paddy McNair was ruled out with another injury.

McNair made his comeback earlier this month after a long lay-off, only to pick up a knock at the weekend in the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough, where he only lasted 42 minutes.

Manager Chris Coleman confirmed via the club website that McNair now faces ‘two to three weeks’ on the sidelines with his latest groin injury.

McNair’s career at Sunderland has never really got going, after suffering lengthy injury lay-offs in his first two seasons.

This one is only a minor injury, and it is often the case for players coming back from longer spells out, but it is frustrating all the same.

It is bad luck for McNair and just what Sunderland did not need right now.

They are in a desperate situation at the bottom of the Championship as they bid to stave off relegation to League One.

McNair’s versatility and ability to play in defence and midfield was useful for them and while he could still return to play a big part for the run-in, he will be missed for the net fortnight.
