Sunderland beat Portsmouth 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Sunderland picked up their first league win of the season on Saturday afternoon, beating Portsmouth 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
Two of the favourites to go up from League One met once again, just months after they battled it out for a place in the League One play-off final – which Sunderland reached.
This weekend, both sides were looking for a big statement win to kickstart their seasons, and Sunderland were able to come from behind and get all three points.
Portsmouth did though take the lead, as new signing Marcus Harness put Pompey in front, only for Jordan Willis to equalise moments later for Sunderland.
Chris Maguire – formerly of Portsmouth – then hit the winner before half time, and Jack Ross saw his side see out the game and claim all three points.
The game also saw Portsmouth use new signing John Marquis up front, just months after a potential move from Doncaster Rovers to Sunderland fell through (Chronicle).

Marquis led the line for Pompey but failed to really trouble Sunderland, and Black Cats fans have been taking to Twitter to celebrate not signing him.
