Sunderland remain bottom of the Championship after being thrashed 4-0.

Sunderland fans have been taking to Twitter to comment on Jake Clarke-Salter’s debut for the Black Cats on Saturday, and while the result would have been a huge disappointment for Chris Coleman’s side, there was some sympathy for the youngster.
Clarke-Salter became Sunderland’s first signing of the January transfer window when he arrived on loan until the end of the campaign earlier in the week, and he was thrown straight into the team for the trip to Cardiff City.

It appeared that the Black Cats may be in with a good chance of securing a positive result as they went into the break level with the game goalless against a Bluebirds side who were looking to move themselves back into the top two after four defeats in a row.
However, the floodgates opened in dramatic fashion in the second-half. Callum Paterson scored twice, while Joe Ralls and Anthony Pilkington also got on the scoresheet as Cardiff ultimately ran out 4-0 winners while the visitors ended the game with just 10 men on the pitch after Didier Ndong was sent off shortly after the break.

While most of the Sunderland squad were slammed on social media, there was some support for the 20-year-old. While he could have done better defensively at times, his performance was a bit more encouraging, and the fans also suggested that on Twitter.
However, the long-suffering supporters will know that they are going to need a lot more than a youngster putting in a decent display if they are to get themselves out of trouble in the second tier.
Here is the best of the reaction to Clarke-Salter’s display…
