The Black Cats conceded late on for a 1-1 draw at Glanford Park, and some fans are starting to question whether Jack Ross is up to the job.
Sunderland endured a frustrating Saturday afternoon as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Scunthorpe United in their League One encounter at Glanford Park.
The Black Cats laboured against the Iron for much of the first half but, although they couldn’t break the deadlock come half time, they finally got the breakthrough just before the hour.
Scunthorpe failed to close down Reece James down the left, who went on to deliver an inviting cross which Josh Maja guided inside the near post for his 16th of goal of the season.
The hosts set about trying to draw level and came close to doing so when James Perch’s effort took a deflection to wrong-foot Sunderland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, who managed to make a save with his feet.
Sadly for Jack Ross’ side, they couldn’t hold onto their lead as they were caught out just three minutes from time as Adam Hammill marked his Scunthorpe debut with a powerful strike right into the top corner of McLaughlin’s net.
The result means that Sunderland are now three points behind second-placed Luton Town, who thrashed Peterborough United 4-0, and four behind leaders Portsmouth, who lost 2-1 at Oxford United.
