Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong has been linked to Lyon.

Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong has been linked with a move to French side Lyon.

Newspaper L’Equipe report Ndong is one of a handful of players being considered by last season’s Europa League semi-finalists.

Ndong signed for David Moyes’ Sunderland last summer from Lorient in a club record £13.5 million deal.

The transition to the Premier League was not easy for the midfielder, who joined a struggling side low on confidence.

Sunderland ended up being relegated despite Ndong’s efforts, which saw him score one goal in 31 games.

This season he has been a regular so far under new boss Simon Grayson, playing all 270 minutes of their three Championship games so far.

From Ndong’s perspective it may be too soon to give up on his spell at Sunderland after just one season, but the opportunity to sign with a strong side like Lyon back in his homeland will surely be tempting.

Sunderland fans are split on the transfer rumours, with some keen to keep him and others not too fussed if he does leave…
