Newcastle United summer signing DeAndre Yedlin added a late second for his side in the 2-0 victory over Derby County at the iPro Stadium on Saturday evening.

It was the full-back’s first goal in English football, and one that helped the Magpies climb to second in the Championship table after four straight league victories.

Yoan Gouffran gave Newcastle the lead with a sumptuous volley from Jonjo Shelvey’s corner early in the match.

Yedlin then came on to replace the goalscorer with 17 minutes to play, and he managed to leave his mark on the game in stoppage time as he reacted quickest to Ayoze Perez’s square ball and turned the ball in to put the game to bed.

The USA international arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window and is already off the mark for his new club, even though he is still yet to start a game.

Yedlin also spent last season on loan to rivals Sunderland as he helped them stay in the Premier League at Newcastle’s expense.

And despite being linked with a move back to the Black Cats over the summer (The Daily Mail), the 23-year-old opted for the Championship club as they eye an immidiate return to the top flight.

Needless to say, when Yedlin netted for the Magpies, it drew a bit of a reaction from the Wearside contingent of the North-East.
