Sunderland linked to Stoke City midfielder.

David Moyes could be set to add another veteran to Sunderland’s squad, with the potential arrival of Charlie Adam.

The Sun report the Black Cats are looking to rival Turkish side Fenerbahce for Adam’s signature, taking on former Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat.

Adam is still under contract to Stoke City for another 18 months, and has featured 20 times in all competitions for the club this season, including 11 Premier League starts.

The former Liverpool and Blackpool midfielder is 31, and has been at Stoke since signing for the club in 2012.

The dead ball specialist has one goal and three assists to his name, and could help David Moyes’ side get the best out of striker Jermain Defoe, who has shown this season he still has a lethal eye for goal if given the right service.

A deal would depend on Adam’s willingness to risk being a Championship player next season, with Sunderland in 20th position with no wins from their last five league games.

Stoke meanwhile are in ninth place, but could see the second half of their season trail off if they have nothing to play for. Signing for Sunderland would certainly be a challenge, if Adam is up for it.

Fans are split about the potential signing, here is a look at a cross section of the reaction via Twitter…
