Lamine Kone, Didier Ndong and Jack Rodwell could all be sold by Sunderland in January in order to raise funds.
Lamine Kone managed to go from being the most popular guy in Sunderland to a full-on scapegoat in no time at all. And he only has himself to blame.
A matter of weeks after slamming home two goals in a 3-0 thrashing of Everton at the Stadium of Light that saved Sunderland, relegated Newcastle, and had Sam Allardyce dad-dancing his way down the touchline, the Ivory Coast international did everything he could to force through a move to Everton.
Sky Sports reported in August that Kone took it upon himself to travel to Merseyside in order to demand a move after Sunderland rejected Everton’s £18 million offer. With David Moyes playing hard-ball, the former Lorient defender was forced to remain at the Stadium of Light.
But he didn’t exactly get his head down, work hard and do everything possible to convince The Toffees to revive their interest in the next transfer window.
“(It was a) lazy performance,” Jamie Carragher said after Kone’s pathetic display in a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal in August 2016, per The Mail. “(He was) not interested in doing his job properly.”
That’s quite a way to burn your bridges. Kone is still far from a popular figure on Wearside so reports in the Northern Echo that Sunderland could look to sell him, as well as Didier Ndong and Jack Rodwell in January to raise funds, haven’t exactly been met with too much disappointment.
