Jason Steele impressed in his first Sunderland game since the end of the January transfer window.

Sunderland may still find themselves bottom of the Championship table, but they came out of Saturday with a little more optimism after earning a point away at an in-form Millwall side.
The Lions had won their last three games in the league to move themselves into the very periphery of the play-off discussion, while Chris Coleman’s side were still awaiting their first win since January.

The wait for a win continues, but the Black Cats followed up their spirited 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough last weekend by taking a point away from The Den, with Bryan Oviedo scoring for the visitors before Shaun Hutchinson found the equaliser in the second-half.
It could have been another defeat for Sunderland had it not been for a decent performance from Jason Steele, who was making his first appearance for the side since the end of the January transfer window after previously being relegated to the bench by Lee Camp.

Camp’s spell in goal was a fairly miserable one so Steele’s return was a welcome decision, even if he had come in for a significant amount of criticism earlier in the campaign.
But the 27-year-old vindicated the selection and made a number of stops to keep the home side at bay when they were on top in the game, and that has seen the summer signing receive plenty of praise from the supporters.
The long-suffering fans are not getting carried away, but they certainly feel that Steele did more than enough to keep Camp out of the team for Tuesday’s clash with Aston Villa at the Stadium of Light.
Here is the best of the reaction to Steele’s display…
