Some of the Black Cats faithful have been wanting to see Burge picked by Jack Ross as first-choice goalkeeper.

A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Jon McLaughlin’s Scotland call-up – and what it could mean for fellow Black Cats goalkeeper Lee Burge and his chances of establishing himself as number one.
The 32-year-old Sunderland stopper is once again part of Steve Clarke’s contingent as the Scotland squad prepares to visit Russia on 10 October and host San Marino three days later in Euro 2020 qualifying.
McLaughlin has found himself under criticism for sections of the Black Cats fanbase for displays in which errors and bad decision making have crept in, such as the 2-1 win over MK Dons last weekend.
The 32-year-old had a moment to forget in the 54th minute of that game when an opposition cross lumped into the box from distance was headed back across goal by George Williams, and Jordan Bowery bundled home from close range.
McLaughlin could have done much better with both the cross and with the delivery back across goal for the point-blank effort, and although he did pick himself up and was solid after that, some Black Cats fans felt they had seen enough.
Although there is the possibility that Sunderland could request the game against Fleetwood Town be postponed due to international call-ups (Chronicle Live), some of the Stadium of Light faithful nonetheless urged Burge to take his chance should it go ahead.

Here is some of the Sunderland fan reaction on social media to the McLaughlin call-up and what it could mean for the 26-year-old understudy:
