The Spanish giants have made contact with the injured Sunderland winger.

Some Sunderland fans are joking that one of their players could be off to Real Madrid.
Duncan Watmore is likely to miss the rest of Sunderland’s season after suffering yet another serious knee injury shortly after his return to fitness.
And according to the player’s father on Twitter, Watmore has been wished a “smooth and speedy recovery” in a letter from the Spanish giants – which was signed by Emilio Butragueño.
“Duncan went to rehab today to find this letter waiting for him. How classy is that from @realmadrid? I now hope they win the Champions League again!” posted Watmore’s father, Ian.
It remains unclear whether this is simply standard procedure from Real Madrid, or whether something more sinister is occurring.

Sunderland fans will certainly hope it’s the former, and are reacting as such on social media – some even proposing a swap deal for £85 million man Gareth Bale.
When asked whether Madrid are chasing Watmore, the Mancunian’s father jokingly replied:
Former Altrincham winger Watmore was plucked from Moss Lane by Sunderland four years ago, and has gone on to play 47 times for the Mackems, scoring four goals and creating another seven.
The 23-year-old, who has a first-class honours degree from Newcastle University, has also been capped on 13 occasions by England’s Under-21s.
