Caulker cancelled his contract at QPR by mutual consent yesterday, with his time at Loftus Road coming to an end.
Caulker has experienced difficulties on and off the field since moving to QPR, and a new start may be needed to get him back to his best.
Caulker was once considered one of England’s brightest prospects, and was capped by the national team.
Some Sunderland fans still believe Caulker could come good, and have suggested he could be a good signing for Chris Coleman.
Others are less keen on seeing Caulker at the Stadium of Light though, and have suggested that Sunderland should move elsewhere in January.
Sunderland are likely to be looking for free transfers and loans in January, as they only have a limited budget.
Sunderland are currently in 22nd place in the Championship table, and appear to be locked in the thick of a relegation battle.
