Sunderland fans are keen to see Roy Keane return to replace Chris Coleman.

Ireland's assistant coach Roy Keane holds a press conference at the Montbauron stadium in Versailles on June 24, 2016 during the Euro 2016 football tournament.

Sunderland fans have called for the return of Roy Keane, following Chris Coleman’s departure.

Coleman was sacked as Sunderland boss yesterday, in what was a shock move.

The Welsh manager had already stated that he wanted to remain in charge at Sunderland next term, and he was expected to have a chance to attempt to take them up from League One.

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane watches on during the FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifier between Republic of Ireland and Austria at Aviva Stadium on June 11, 2017 in Dublin.

However, Sunderland are now looking for a new man to take them forward.

And the Stadium of Light crowd are keen to see Keane return to Wearside.

Keane’s hardline stance may go down well at Sunderland, as there is a feeling that the players have got away with too much in recent times.

Sunderland have suffered successive relegations, and the hope is that they cannot fall any further.

During Keane’s first spell in charge of Sunderland he took over with the Black Cats languishing at the bottom of the Championship table, and guided them to promotion to the Premier League.
