Sunderland fans anticipate Jack Rodwell’s exit after Stewart Donald arrives as owner

Getting rid of Jack Rodwell could be Stewart Donald’s first exercise as Sunderland’s new owner, according to several Black Cats supporters on Twitter.

Rodwell – a £10 million signing from Manchester City four years ago – has failed to make a single Sunderland appearance since September.

That is despite a rumoured wage packet of £70,000 a week, which carried over from the Mackems’ time in the Premier League.

According to the Chronicle, Rodwell will finally see a reduction to his salary after Sunderland’s latest relegation, although he still stands to earn around £40,000 a week in the third tier.

Despite his three caps for England, Rodwell’s lack of action is likely to deter potential suitors, although terminating his contract could be an option after Donald’s takeover on Monday – at least as far as some are concerned…
