With David Moyes having added Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo to his list of former Everton players at the Stadium of Light, what do Sunderland fans make of their transfer business?
As many Black Cats fans expected, January turned out to be a very disappointing and difficult month for Sunderland. After failing to recruit striker Leonardo Ulloa, David Moyes was only able to bring in a trio of former Everton players: Joleon Lescott, Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson.
The three players, who have little recent gametime, don’t exactly strike Sunderland fans as the ideal players for a relegation battle. Oviedo has struggled to get a game at Everton. Darron Gibson struggles to stay fit, and Joleon Lescott’s last season in the Premier League was spent as part of Aston Villa’s disastrous relegation to the Championship.

“If they come out with the same success Everton have got, I’ll be happy with it!” said one Sunderland fan, who was feeling surprisingly chipper about Sunderland’s transfer business. However, another Sunderland fan suggested the moves make the Black Cats nothing but a “reject club”.
“We haven’t signed anybody. Rejects. Finished” said another scathing Sunderland fan, whereas another added that they thought “Lescott could be a good player”. We’re not sure what it was about that season with Aston Villa that has Sunderland fans thinking that, but it’s good to have hope!
Asked if any one the signings give them hope, one Sunderland fan firmly said “No. Not one of them”. Worrying times lay ahead for the Black Cats, as David Moyes now battles to keep the club in the Premier League.
