Sunderland full-back Adam Matthews has been impressed by the Stadium of Light crowd this season.

Adam Matthews has told the Sunderland Echo that he thinks Sunderland fans are ‘brilliant’.
Matthews was selected to start for Sunderland in midweek, and he helped the side to a 3-1 win over Carlisle United.
The match in the Football League Trophy only had a small crowd in attendance.
But Matthews insists that he was impressed by the atmosphere, and he is determined to give Sunderland fans the success they deserve this season.
“Last season the fans were brilliant. It was tough for us on the pitch, but really tough for them off it,” Matthews said.
“You can see with the attendances we’ve had this season that they’re behind the team. They’ve always been brilliant and want their team to do well, which we haven’t done until this season. I think it is time we repay them now, and hopefully we can get promotion.”

Matthews has been at Sunderland since 2015, and he has not had much to cheer during his time at the Stadium of Light.
Matthews played his part in Sunderland’s back-to-back relegation seasons, and he has only played a rotational role so far this season.
Sunderland are back in action at the weekend, when they take on Shrewsbury Town at New Meadow.
