Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham has impressed while on loan at Bristol City this season.

The 19-year-old has scored 23 goals in his 39 league appearances for the Championship club and is the second top scorer in the division, despite Bristol City sitting in 17th place.

His form has prompted interest from a number of clubs, including relegation threatened Middlesbrough and Sunderland, reports The Northern Echo.

According to the Gazette, Chelsea would prefer the prolific teenager to sign for a Championship side that are pushing for promotion next season, and Sunderland could very well tick that box.

With the Black Cats sitting 12 points adrift of Premier League safety and only six games left to play, relegation seems more a matter of when rather than if for David Moyes’ team.

In the seemingly inevitable event of Sunderland relegation, Moyes will need to bolster his attack, with star man Jermaine Defoe likely to be one of many to leave the club in the summer.

As with most teams that face relegation, Sunderland will face a squad overhaul to rebuild for a promotion push next season, and the signing of Tammy Abraham could go a big step towards achieving that goal.
