The chaos at Sunderland deepens as caretaker manager Billy McKinlay quits the club to join David Moyes at West Ham United.
The Black Cats have made a poor start to their 2017-18 campaign, and find themselves rock bottom in the Championship table with just 10 points on board from 16 games.
Billy McKinlay was handed the first team charge alongside Robbie Stockdale after Simon Grayson’s departure. However, as it stands, he will link up with David Moyes as part of his backroom staff at the London stadium.
The former Watford manager joined Sunderland under Moyes as his chief scout. He also served as Moyes’ assistant coach during his spell at Real Sociedad.
His departure is a huge blow to the Championship club who are without a permanent manager for almost two weeks now.
“Sunderland AFC can confirm that Billy McKinlay has taken up a coaching role with West Ham United,” the club have confirmed with an official statement.
“The club would like to thank Billy for his efforts during his time on Wearside. Robbie Stockdale will continue as the club’s caretaker manager when the squad returns to training on Monday.”
Moyes has replaced Slaven Bilic as West Ham’s new manager, and he didn’t waste time to bring in assistant coaches of his choice.
