The Black Cats manager admits he is close to getting “fed up” with the uncertainty around the striker’s future.
Sunderland manager Jack Ross has admitted that he is reaching the point of being “fed up” with the transfer saga involving Josh Maja.
The 20-year-old’s future has been the subject of intense speculation after he turned down a contract offer at the Stadium of Light a fortnight ago.
Maja’s Black Cats contract expires at the end of the season and he is currently free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a club outside England.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are pursuing a deal for the Sunderland striker, which would see Jack Hendry head out on loan.
However, with so much uncertainty regarding Maja’s future and Ross knowing little himself about where all the related parties stand, the boss is eager to see the situation resolved.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo about the situation, Ross said: “What I would say is that I’m edging towards the stage where I’m fed up with it, and we need to resolve it one way or another.
“There’s a few different scenarios within that – Josh going, Josh going and coming back on loan, Josh staying [until the summer], Josh signing a new contract… but we need to get to one.”
Ross also spoke about the importance of Maja’s future in terms of Sunderland being able to replace him adequately, stressing it would be difficult to bring in two strikers in 14 days.
At present, however, Maja is still being considered a part of his manager’s plans, with the club very much still in the hunt for promotion from League One.
