Sunderland boss Jack Ross says he would have liked to sign a forward

Sunderland were quite busy in the summer transfer window.

Sunderland manager Jack Ross as admitted to The Northern Echo that he would have liked to sign one more forward in the summer transfer window.

The Black Cats, who are playing in League One this season after getting relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, were quite busy in the summer transfer window and made a number of signings.

Among the players Sunderland recruited this summer are Jon McLaughlin, Chris Maguire, Jack Baldwin and Charlie Wyke.

Sunderland manager Ross, who was appointed in the role in the summer, has admitted that he would have liked to sign another forward.

Ross told The Northern Echo: “If I was being really greedy I would have liked one more in the forward area but I knew the circumstances of what we’ve taken on here was always going to inhibit us towards the end of this window.

“I’d made peace with that because I knew the circumstances that we needed a resolution to a couple of players’ problems that I’ve inherited as the manager and everyone’s inherited at the club but there wasn’t.”

January transfer hint?

The two Sunderland players Ross refers to are Papy Djilobodji and Didier Ndong, as reported by The Northern Echo.

If Ross does not plan to use them in the coming weeks and months, then Sunderland could well decide to offload them in the January transfer window.

That could free up the Black Cats to sign a forward that the manager clearly wants, and it would help in Sunderland’s quest to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.
