Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has decided to loan out Laurens De Bock to Sunderland for the season.
Sunderland picked up another upset in the League Cup, as they took the scalp of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane yesterday.
Leeds loanee De Bock was part of the Sunderland defence which kept a clean sheet, as Ross’s side won 1-0.
And the Belgian defender’s first display since leaving Elland Road caught the eye of his new manager, even though De Bock isn’t yet fully fit.
“Laurens did well to last the game because we weren’t sure if he would because he is a bit behind Joel [Lynch],” Ross said.
“He is a proper left-back and you could see that tonight, and we need that.”
De Bock has struggled in English football at Leeds, but looked comfortable in Sunderland’s defence last night.
The 26-year-old is now putting serious pressure on Denver Hume, as he looks to break into Ross’s side’s starting line-up.
Leeds fans will be tracking De Bock’s progress out on loan, but it appears unlikely that he has a chance to break into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.
Bielsa has loaned out De Bock in every season he has been at Leeds, and seemingly has made him surplus to requirements.
Sunderland’s reward for knocking Sheffield United out of the Carabao Cup is a fourth round tie against Oxford United.
