Sunderland boss David Moyes has offered high praise for Jordan Pickford, claiming that he can be England’s future number one, on one condition, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old has played in six of the Black Cats’ eight Premier League games so far this season, and has leaked 11 goals during those outings.

Despite Moyes’ praise for the youngster, there is one area where the Sunderland boss believe he needs to improve, if he is to reach his potential, as quoted by the Daily Mail:

“Jordan’s framework will change and he needs to look at the work he’s doing in the gym and also what he is eating. I’m just getting that information passed onto me about his eating. He needs a programme to make sure he continues growing in the right way, because this career is short and, if you want to be at the top, you have to do all those things to get yourself there.”

Pickford has made nine appearances for the England under-21 side, and his ability is obvious for everyone to see, although there is clearly still need for improvement – most of which will come naturally with experience.

In what is now such a competitive league, however, he must ensure that every detail is covered, to help gain a competitive edge on those he is in direct competition with for a starting spot.

Sunderland are currently in the midst of a woeful run of form, and sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after a return of just two points from their opening eight league games.

Moyes will certainly need his goalkeeper to be at his best in the coming weeks, as fixtures against the rejuvenated West Ham United and second placed Arsenal await them.
