Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman impressed against Hull City recently.
Sunderland boss David Moyes has told the Chronicle that George Honeyman’s performances in training have been highly impressive lately.
Honeyman was given a chance to start for Sunderland in their match against Hull City last weekend.
And the 22-year-old impressed at the KC Stadium, as Sunderland finally picked up a victory.
The Black Cats ran out surprise 2-0 winners against the Tigers, with Honeyman playing a starring role.
And Moyes believes that the youngster has improved considerably this season.
“I thought he played really well,” Moyes said. “I’ve got to say his level in training has lifted over the last two or three weeks. He’s been on the verge. He played very well at West Brom (in January), I brought him in and then had to bring him back out again.
“But he came back today and because he does his work unconditionally, he doesn’t ask or look across to the bench, we don’t have to ask him to run between players or close people down. He does it completely unconditionally and always give his best in every game.
“He demands the ball, does the work for the team and I’ve got to say his football has become better.”
Honeyman has now made five Premier League appearances for Sunderland this season.
The youngster could be one of the players who actually benefits from the Black Cats’ relegation to the Championship, as he is likely to be given an important role next term.
Sunderland’s next match comes against Swansea City at the weekend, when Honeyman is likely to be given another starting place.
