Sunderland are not expected to have much money to spend in the January transfer window.
Sunderland boss David Moyes has told the Sunderland Echo that Ellis Short has informed him that he may be able to make some signings in the January transfer window.
Sunderland are not expected to be able to spend much on new players this month, after chief executive Martin Bain suggested that Moyes would have a small transfer budget.
However, Moyes has suggested that he has received a message from Short that Sunderland could have the money to bring in some new players – if they are the right fit at the Stadium of Light.
“I think with what we’ve got everybody would say of course Sunderland need help so let’s hope maybe something happens and we’re able to do that,” he said.
“I think the supporters have known the situation. The club have made it clear.
“I spoke with Ellis and he’s saying let’s see what’s out there and maybe we can try to do something.”
Sunderland are in dire need of additions, after making a terrible start to the season.
The Black Cats were beaten 4-1 by Burnely at Turf Moor in their latest match, after putting in a shocking defensive display.
Sunderland are currently stuck in 18th place in the Premier League table, and there are fears that they could get cut adrift unless they improve quickly.
Moyes’ men are currently two points away from safety, with their next match coming against high flying Liverpool later today.
