Sunderland boss David Moyes has confirmed that he will be staying on next season.
David Moyes has insisted to Sunderland’s official website that he does not regret his infamous comments at the start of the season, where he suggested that the Black Cats would be in a relegation battle.
Moyes admitted early on in his tenure at the Stadium of Light that Sunderland could struggle this season.
And his prediction has turned out to be true, with Sunderland now sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Moyes has been heavily criticised for the comments, with pundits and supporters alike suggesting that he put Sunderland into a negative mindset right from the offset of the campaign.
But Moyes has issued a fierce defence of himself, insisting that he was only telling the truth.
“I look back on it and I was very honest and forthright. I told people what I thought,” Moyes said. “I came to a part of the country I was led to believe that’s how they wanted to be spoken to and I told them exactly.
“You want managers to tell the truth and I do.”
Moyes has confirmed that he will be staying on at Sunderland next season, despite their relegation.
The former Manchester United and Real Sociedad boss is looking to guide the Black Cats straight back to the Premier League.
Sunderland have just four more top flight games to complete this campaign, with their next fixture coming against Hull City tomorrow.
