Sunderland are due to face Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
Sunderland boss David Moyes has told the club’s official website that he felt Tottenham Hotspur were unlucky to lose to Monaco in midweek.
Tottenham’s performance against Monaco in the Champions League was heavily criticised, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat.
However, Moyes feels that the criticism of Spurs has been harsh – and he disagrees with pundits suggesting that they were poor.
“I might go against the grain. I thought they were unlucky against Monaco and it could have gone the other way for them,” Moyes said, at his press conference today. “The goal for Monaco went against the run of play, and the game just ran away from them a bit.”
Moyes also predicted that Tottenham will be challenging for the Premier League title again this season.
“I think they’ll be close again,” he added. “I think the squad and the club they have got there, demands that they are always close.”
Despite his kind words, Moyes will be looking to guide his Sunderland side to a shock victory at White Hart Lane.
The Black Cats are yet to win this term and the pressure is on them to start moving away from the relegation zone already.
Spurs, meanwhile, are still unbeaten in Premier League action, but it remains to be seen how they will react after their European exertions in midweek.
