Sunderland have won three of the four matches in which Victor Anichebe has started.
David Moyes has hailed Victor Anichebe as Sunderland’s game-changer against Leicester City, as per his comments in the Sunderland Echo.
Moyes feared that the game was getting away from Sunderland at one stage during the contest, but Anichebe swung the momentum back in the Black Cats’ favour.
Sunderland then went on to seize control of the game, with two goals in the second half.
Leicester defender Robert Huth inadvertently put Sunderland in the lead, when he deflected the ball into his own net, before Jermain Defoe added a second.
Shinji Okazaki did pull one back for Leicester, but it was not enough, and Sunderland went on to claim the three points.
The Black Cats had a number of notable performers on the day, but Anichebe was singled out for special praise by Moyes after the match.
“We had let them started to control the game and I was worried about that,” the Scot said. “I thought Victor, though, did a couple of things which turned it for us.
“I think we are showing that we can get up at people, get closer, run and get forward and do all the things you want the team to do.”
Anichebe has been brilliant since signing for Sunderland, and his inclusion in their starting line-up has helped them turn their form around.
The Black Cats failed to win any of their first 10 Premier League matches, but since Anichibe has come into Moyes’ team they have been victorious in three of their last four encounters, and now sit just one point away from safety.
