Lewis Grabban returns to Sunderland this week as an Aston Villa player.

In comments reported by the Chronicle, Chris Coleman has suggested that Lewis Grabban did not let him know that he was leaving Sunderland to return to Bournemouth before he ultimately moved to Aston Villa in January.

Grabban appeared to be a very good signing for the Black Cats who have struggled towards the bottom of the Championship table for much of the campaign. Though some of his performances were criticised by the fans, he did produce the goods in front of goal, scoring 12 goals in just 19 league appearances.

Those goals have been missed. And Sunderland fans will be hoping that he does not come back to haunt them as he will be looking to be a part of the Aston Villa side that faces Coleman’s men at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.

And ahead of the game, Coleman has outlined some of the details surrounding Grabban’s exit from the club in the weeks leading up to his loan move to the Villans.

“Lewis didn’t actually come to me. He went to the chief executive,” Coleman said, as reported by the Chronicle, referring to the striker’s departure. “As we understood it, he cancelled his accommodation and then had a conversation with our chief executive to say that his time here was up.

“I don’t have a problem with that. Lewis Grabban has to look after Lewis Grabban if he has chances to go somewhere where he’s fighting for promotion. But he didn’t once ever come to me about that.”

Grabban seems to have taken little time to settle into his new surroundings at Villa Park, scoring in his last two appearances for Steve Bruce’s men as they look to challenge for an automatic-promotion spot in the second tier.

Meanwhile, Sunderland’s replacement for the 30-year-old, Ashley Fletcher will be looking to prove his doubters wrong with the 22-year-old still looking for his first goal for the Black Cats following his loan move from Middlesbrough towards the start of the year.
