Sunderland are set to take on Cardiff City in Championship action tomorrow.

Wales' manager Chris Coleman follows the game from the touchline during the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification football match between Georgia and Wales in Tbilisi on October 6, 2017.

Chris Coleman has suggested to Sunderland’s official website that there is no chance that Lamine Kone will play against Cardiff City this weekend.

Kone has not featured at all for Sunderland since Coleman took charge, due to injury.

And the Welsh boss has suggested that although Kone has returned to training this week, he is still some way away from playing for the first-team.

“We have had one or two back training – Lamine Kone was back training on Tuesday but he has been out for eight weeks and hasn’t had any type of football so there is absolutely no chance of him being involved at the weekend,” Coleman said.

Kone may have played his last game for Sunderland already, as he is up for sale this month.

Coleman is known to be looking to raise funds for his own planned additions, as his current budget is very limited.

Sunderland are having to scour the market for loans and free transfers, and have not been able to get a deal done yet.

The sale of Kone could help Sunderland raise a sizeable amount of money though, which could lead to the Ivorian being offloaded.

Sunderland desperately need the points against Cardiff at the weekend, as they are currently sat at the bottom of the Championship table.
