Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has underlined the importance of the January transfer window ahead of the Black Cats’ FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough.
The Black Cats find themselves in an uncomfortable position at the bottom of the league, and therefore this month is absolutely vital for them.
Coleman’s squad has been badly ravaged through injuries, and with several key players out of action for a lengthy period of time, reinforcement is needed at the earliest.
However, it won’t be easy for Coleman to get the right profile of players as Sunderland have financial constraints and as such he will have to scout the loan market mainly.
However, Coleman has assured the Sunderland fans that the club is working hard to bring in new players, and that talks are ongoing over several deals.
The former Wales manager has said in the press conference that he is confident of signing a player within this weekend.
“I’m confident there will be a face in between now and the weekend,” said Coleman, as quoted by the Sunderland Echo.
Sunderland have been reportedly linked with a move for Liverpool duo Ben Woodburn and Danny Ward in the winter transfer window. When asked to comment on the potential transfer move, Coleman said they are “very good players” but refused to comment on the deal.
“Both are very good players but I wouldn’t disrespect Liverpool or Jurgen Klopp by speaking about his players,” he added.
