Sunderland boss Chris Coleman wants to bring new players in January.
Ahead of Sunderland’s FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough, Chris Coleman said in the pre-match conference that he is looking to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.
Coleman’s squad has been badly ravaged with injuries, with Sunderland missing so many key players for this tie.
The Black Cats find themselves in a precarious position in the Championship, sitting rock bottom, and therefore the January transfer window is absolutely vital for the club.
The midfield is one area where Coleman will be looking to add players, while reinforcement is required in other areas of the pitch as well.
Coleman has said that he doesn’t have enough funds to sign players directly, and that he will be only focusing on loan deals.
When asked how many signings he is expecting this January, Coleman replied, “more the better”.
“I think the more the better. We have got to be realistic. If we make signings, they will be loan signings as I sit here now,” said Coleman, as quoted by the Sunderland Echo.
“I haven’t got money to say I’m going to bid this for him, and bid that for him.”
Sunderland are reportedly interested in a move for David Cotterill, who is a free agent after being released by Birmingham City last month.
The Black Cats are also reportedly interested in signing Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool.
