Graeme Murty’s Rangers look to have missed out on the Swansea City striker to Sunderland, despite

Sunderland look set to beat Rangers to the signing of Oli McBurnie – despite the Swansea City striker’s Ibrox allegiance.
Though born in Leeds, McBurnie is a well-known Rangers supporter and has 12 under-21 caps for Scotland.
It would appear, however, that the lure of Ibrox was not enough for the 21-year-old, who is heading to Sunderland on loan until the summer, according to Sky Sports [live blog entry 18:06].
Sunderland have been frantically chasing a new striker – as well as a goalkeeper – on deadline day, with Middlesbrough’s Ashley Fletcher linked along with Sheffield Wednesday pair Atdhe Nuhiu and Jordan Rhodes.

And Mackems boss Chis Coleman’s search seems to have borne fruit at last.
Sunderland were robbed of James Vaughan and Lewis Grabban earlier in the window, leaving teenage duo Josh Maja and Joel Asoro as Coleman’s only options up front.
In contrast, Rangers added Jason Cummings to a striking pool already comprising Alfredo Morelos, Eduardo Herrera, Michael O’Halloran and Kenny Miller.

McBurnie has made 12 appearances for Swansea this season, having seen a loan move to Barnsley collapse in August.
In making a temporary switch to the Stadium of Light, the Yorkshireman has at least open his chances of one-day joining Rangers.
