Leeds United defender Laurens De Bock could make his Sunderland debut later this evening.
De Bock is yet to make his debut for Sunderland since signing on loan from Leeds, but he could be given his first chance tonight.
The Belgian full-back is expected to start for Sunderland this evening, when they take on Premier League side Sheffield United in the League Cup.
But even though De Bock is yet to feature for the Black Cats, he has still made a positive impression.
“Although Conor [McLaughlin] and De Bock are slightly older than O’Nien and Hume, they’re still wanting to get better as well, we see that every day on the training pitch,” Fowler said.
“We see them doing extra and trying to improve.”
De Bock has a point to prove after arriving at Sunderland, as his time in English football to date has not been successful.
De Bock joined Leeds in 2018, but he has been loaned out in both seasons since Marcelo Bielsa took charge.
De Bock’s task of breaking into Sunderland’s team is a difficult one as Denver Hume, who has been starting at left-back, is highly rated, so he will need to put in an impressive performance this evening.
Sunderland have had a mixed start to the season, and they currently sit in fifth place in the League One table.
