Sunderland assistant boss James Fowler has told the Northern Echo that Aiden McGeady won’t play tomorrow.

Sunderland are due to take on Sheffield United in the League Cup on Wednesday, with Jack Ross set to make changes.

Sunderland rotated heavily in the last round, but still managed to beat Burnley.

And the Black Cats will be hoping to take another Premier League scalp tomorrow.

Sunderland will attempt to do so without their star winger McGeady though, and Jordan Willis could also miss out.

“Aiden will miss out – that’s a definite – and Jordan Willis is one we are keeping an eye on, so that means Lynch and De Bock have an opportunity to be involved,” Fowler said.

“We are keen to get them involved and Wednesday can give us that chance.”

Sunderland head into tomorrow’s game as underdogs, but another defeat will not help to relieve the pressure building on Ross.

Sunderland have won just one of their last four League One matches, which has increased the frustration around the Stadium of Light, with many supporters accusing their side of underperforming.
