Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic were both on target as Hull defeated Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
This game didn’t waste any time to swing into action. A poor pass back from Phil Bardsley left Shane Long racing clear on goal. Wes Brown was always struggling to keep up with the Irishman – and his reckless slide was as the last man – and he was duly shown the red card.
Down to ten men it would always be a struggle for Gus Poyet’s men – and soon enough it became even more difficult.
Sunderland failed to clear a corner in the 16th minute and from Jake Livermore’s strike at goal it was Long who reacted fastest – tucking away for 1-0.
Hull made it 2-0 in the second half when Nikica Jelavic finally ended his goal drought. He tucked away a lovely header just past the hour mark to finish the game off.
