Rangers missed out on the signing of former Celtic and Aberdeen attacker Niall McGinn in the summer.

If there was an annual prize given out to the most bizarre move of the transfer window, Niall McGinn would certainly be among the nominees.
News that the Northern Ireland international would be leaving Aberdeen upon the expiry of his contract certainly garnered plenty of attention, the Scottish Sun reporting that Rangers, Bolton Wanderers, Ipswich Town and Oxford United were hoping to keep McGinn on British shores.

Instead, McGinn rocked up at South Korean club Gwangju, becoming one of only three non-local players representing a club that finished eighth in the K-League last season.
You certainly can’t begrudge McGinn for attempting to broaden his horizons at the age of 30. After all, he has spent his entire professional career playing in Britain up to now with the last five spent at Aberdeen.
Yet, it’s fair to say McGinn has not made the flying start he might have hoped for. The attacker, who hit double figures in his last five seasons for The Dons, is yet to hit the back of the net in five appearances for Gwangju, just two of which have been starts.

It certainly takes time to adapt to a new league and culture, especially one as far removed as South Korea. Though McGinn will be hoping that his form picks up in order to justify the local hype that surrounded his arrival.
Rangers, meanwhile, compensated for missing out on the former Celtic favourite by bringing in plenty of reinforcements of their own, Colombian hitman Alfredo Morelos enjoying an excellent start to life at Ibrox after arriving from HJK Helsinki.
