Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos says his Ibrox career has begun in the best possible way.

The £1 million summer buy from HJK Helsinki has scored twice in each of his last two Premiership outings, and is now the league’s top scorer alongside Rangers-owned forward Michael O’Halloran with five.

Another two, scored against Dunfermline in the Betfred Cup, means Morelos is on seven from eight competitive Gers appearances in total.

And the 21-year-old is already targeting an impact on the international stage, having already approached Colombia boss Jose Pekerman about a call-up.

“It’s started at Rangers in the best possible way for me,” Morelos said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“I had a very hard pre-season and I prepared well for the start of the new league season. I think I have adapted well to the team and that’s reflected on the pitch. So far everything has gone well for me.

“I have been starting games and the continuity has helped me. I’m at my best when I am happy and I certainly am at Rangers. Every game I learn more about my team mates. I’m starting to know their movements and characteristics.

“I’m growing and improving as a player and now my next aim is a place in the Colombia squad. I’ve said to Mr Pekerman ‘I’m here if you need me.’

“I’m training well, playing well, scoring goals. Football in Scotland is aggressive and powerful. My mindset is to carry on doing the right things and wait for the call from him.”

Morelos, who is under contract at Rangers until 2020, has already impressed for Colombia’s Under-20 side, scoring seven goals in six appearances so far.

The former Independiente Medellin player could find competition for places tough at senior level though, with Carlos Bacca, Jackson Martinez and Radamel Falcao among Pekerman’s options.

Rangers’ win 4-1 win against Dundee at the weekend leaves Pedro Caixinha’s side fourth in the standings, only three points behind city rivals Celtic at the top.
