Could Tottenham Hotspur midfielder make the leap this summer?
While previously touted top talent Marcus Edwards battles to make the grade at Tottenham, young teammate Tashan Oakley-Boothe is trending upward.
The 18-year-old is highly regarded by manager Mauricio Pochettino and this summer he has a remarkable opportunity to make an impression.
Oakley-Boothe starred in England’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup winning side last year, and he made his first team debut late in the Carabao Cup last September.
He travelled with the first team squad on a couple of occasions in the Premier League last season too although did not make the bench, next year he hopes to make the leap.
If he can impress this summer, then a starring role could be his for the taking.
The opportunity is certainly there for the central midfielder to steal the limelight.
Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Eric Dier are all away on international duty, while Harry Winks is coming off ankle surgery.
Victor Wanyama at least should play a role, while Spurs could be looking to sell Moussa Sissoko if they can before pre-season even comes around.
Pre-season is the time for Spurs to take a look at young players, and Oakley-Boothe could play a bigger role than he would normally get due to the World Cup related absences, with players set to return for pre-season late.
The opportunity is there for Oakley-Boothe to force his way into Tottenham’s first team plans if he can apply himself and show Pochettino that he is ready.
