Newcastle United’s attempts to sign Kayode are said to have been hijacked

Wanted by Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, Olarenwaju Kayode is now onto his third new club.
According to Own Goal Nigeria, Kayode was all set to sign for Newcastle after an impressive season with Rapid Wien, which he ended as top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga.
However, Manchester City beat them to it, tying the Nigerian to a four-year deal an immediately farming him out to Girona, their feeder club in Spain.
That spell did not go quite to plan, though, as Kayode failed to score in 13 league and cup appearances, and City recalled him in January, with a loan to Amiens mooted by RMC.
However, no such move materialised, allowing Shakhtar Donetsk to snap him up on a temporary deal until the end of the season.
And with Facundo Ferreyra – a former Newcastle loanee – likely to partner the 24-year-old in the coming weeks and months, Magpies fans now have another reason to monitor Shakhtar’s progress – in case the Ukrainian side fail to exercise their buying option.
