Diego Forlan has admitted that he would absolutely love to see Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min at Atletico Madrid.

All the talk at Spurs right now is regarding Harry Kane’s future.

But Tottenham can’t afford to take their eye off the ball here because there are other assets who they need to keep in North London – and Son is probably the next-most important after Kane.

The 28-year-old has 18 goals and 16 assists from 41 games in all competitions for the Lilywhites this season.

And at his age, this might be the South Korea international’s last chance to secure a big move away from the club if he does not leave this summer.

There hasn’t been a great deal of speculation about Son – an £18 million signing in 2015 – leaving to join the Spanish giants, but Atleti legend Forlan has admitted that he’d love to see him at the Wanda Metropolitano nevertheless.

“He’s a top, top player,” Forlan told South Korean journalist Seongmo Lee. “Really doing well, quick, strong. He would be awesome for us. But I know he’s a very expensive player it will be not easy for us to buy him. Imagine if Son comes to Atletico Madrid. It would be much better for us; we’ll be much better than this season of course”

You could even argue that Son is having more deep thoughts about his Tottenham future than Kane.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star turns 29 in the same month as his team-mate turns 28 and are the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich going to be interested when he’s 30 if he leaves it a year? More than likely not.
