Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after he heard that Arsenal target Tino Livramento is likely to be out of action until 2023.

What’s the story?

Well, the 19-year-old has shone for Southampton this season, following a £5m move from Chelsea back in August.

Previously, Liverpool had shown interest in securing his signature.

The England Under-21 international has made 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal while also providing two assists.

However, his impressive campaign has now been cut short, after he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Brighton.

It means Arsenal will be forced to shelve their interest in him.

According to the Express, the Gunners were planning a move for Livramento this summer, but they may now turn their attention to Tariq Lamptey.

After hearing the news, Lineker seemed very disappointed as he took to Twitter to express his sadness.

You can see what the BBC Match of the Day host wrote below.

Ralph Hasenhuttl told the BBC that Livramento was extremely frustrated by the situation, which occurred following a challenge from Enock Mwepu.

Arsenal have no need for Tino Livramento

In our view, we’re not quite sure why Arsenal were targeting another right-back anyway, as Takehiro Tomiyasu has impressed this season.

Of course, the Japan international has missed a large chunk of action so far this year due to a calf injury, but now he’s fit again, he should be among the first names on Mikel Arteta’s teamsheet.

If Livramento was signed, he surely wouldn’t settle for a role on the bench, but neither would Tomiyasu.

In our view, it’s best for Arteta to find an upgrade on Cedric who can deputise for Tomiyasu if he suffers more injuries, but not someone who will want to be a regular starter.

Nevertheless, we hope Livramento – who was turned down by Everton – has a speedy recovery, and suffers no setbacks on his road to full fitness.
