Some Arsenal fans on Twitter believe that Edu is about to pull off a bargain in selling Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.

Sky Sports News reported on Saturday that Arsenal had accepted a £16 million bid for their Argentine goalkeeper.

And the report added that the total fee could eventually rise to £20 million.

Martinez joined the club 10 years ago but has only managed 13 Premier League starts for the Gunners in that time.

During Project Restart in June, he proved himself an exceptional deputy after Bernd Leno picked up a season-ending injury, with the South American also impressing in the FA Cup as Mikel Arteta’s side went all the way, beating Manchester City and Chelsea en route to the trophy.

But quite a few fans of the North London club believe that a figure of £20 million represents a brilliant piece of business by their side.

Is it a good deal? Absolutely, yes.

Although he has impressed for Arsenal over the past three months, Martinez, who played five times during a season-long loan at Getafe a couple of years ago, is untested over the course of a full season in England’s top flight.

And with Edu and Arteta trying to raise money to sign Houssem Aouar or Thomas Partey, it’s impossible to turn down that figure, especially when the club obviously feel that Leno – who is fit again and started Saturday’s 3-0 demolition at Fulham – is a better goalkeeper.
