A reported Tottenham Hotspur target certainly rolled back the years on Thursday night.

Gareth Bale, at the age of 32, proved that he was still a massive player in football by inspiring Wales to a 2-1 World Cup playoff victory over Austria.

The former Tottenham winger, who’s leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season, scored both goals – and boy, were they goals of a world-class variety.

Bale’s opener was particularly special, finding the top corner with a delicious and frankly unstoppable free kick.

And the technique had former Wales international Nathan Blake purring.

Here’s what he said to BBC Sport on the night: “Blake said: “What a fantastic finish! He’s hit it so well – the keeper has no chance. A sublime finish with absolutely brilliant technique!”

Will Tottenham sign Gareth Bale?

Well, that’s what the talk is about.

Tuttomercatoweb reported on February 11 that the North Londoners would be re-signing Bale for a second time.

Bale has already come back to Tottenham once, joining under Jose Mourinho during the summer of 2020.

And despite the fact it was billed as an underwhelming comeback, 11 Premier League goals in 10 starts offers a much more accurate depiction of how it went.

Whether Bale can enjoy a third stint at Spurs remains to be seen but, if that report from Italy is to be believed, a pre-contract agreement has already been signed.
