Usually, when a player is subbed on and then hauled off again just 25 minutes later, it’s because he has failed to make any sort of an impact on the game.
But, for Robbie Brady, it was a case of what he did do rather than what he didn’t during Burnley’s 1-1 draw against Fulham on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ireland international rose from the bench late in the first half to replace the injured Johan Berg Gudmundson at Turf Moor.
In less than half an hour on the pitch, Brady managed to pick up a silly yellow card, miss an excellent headed chance and slice Ola Aina’s goal-bound effort into his own net, before suffering the ultimate ignominy.
As Moise Kean, Marouane Fellaini and even Leroy Sane will tell you, there is nothing more humiliating than a substitute being subbed.
Speaking to LancsLive after the game, Burnley boss Sean Dyche insisted that Brady’s Achilles was causing him a few problems but, even if the winger was fully fit, he would have been fortunate to avoid the proverbial hook.

In fact, Brady could have departed the action even sooner, fortunate as he was to avoid a second yellow.
All in all, it was a night to forget for the reported Celtic target (the Mirror).
Brady’s contract is due to expire in July and, on this evidence, Burnley may not be rushing to offer him a new one.
