Stuttgart left back Borna Sosa has admitted his desire to play in the Premier League after strong links to West Ham United and Newcastle United.
Sosa is a name that many Premier League fans will probably recognise at this point.
The Croatian left back has been shining in Germany and has already racked up nine assists in just 16 games for Stuttgart this season.
Add in nine assists last season and 10 assists in the 2020-21 season and Sosa has proven himself as a real attacking threat up the left flank.
Croatian news outlet Index reported back in August that Sosa was closing in on a big move to West Ham.
Sosa’s agents were allegedly in England expecting a £17million deal to be done with Newcastle United hovering for a potential hijack.
No deal was done in the end though and Sosa has now outlined his Premier League ambitions.
Speaking to Bild, Sosa noted that many players dream of playing in the Premier League and not just for one of the so-called big six.
Sosa added that he would like to rejoin his former teammate Sasa Kalajdzic one day, after the striker traded Stuttgart for Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer.
“Like many players, I dream of playing in the Premier League one day. This is the strongest league in the world. It’s not just the big six top clubs, the other teams are strong too. And if I could play there in a team with Sasa, then all the better.”
Newcastle United move makes more sense for Borna Sosa now
Sosa is attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen but a move to England appears to be his top priority.
We can’t quite see West Ham moving for Sosa this summer given that they brought in a new left back summer in Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea.
Add in that Aaron Cresswell is still available and another left back signing this summer would be something of a surprise.
Newcastle make more sense as a potential destination for Sosa as things stand.
The Magpies have been using Dan Burn at left back this season with Matt Targett out injured of late.
A long-term solution at left back may well be on Newcastle’s wish list amid links with a move for Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.
Sosa offers another option for Newcastle and his ability to create chances would give the Magpies two full backs with outstanding delivery, alongside Kieran Trippier.
That’s a tantalising proposition and Newcastle should be ready to strike for Sosa after hearing his Premier League dreams.
