Paul Scholes slammed Ben Davies for his ‘stupid’ handball during Tottennam’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, as he told Premier League Productions (11/09/21 at 2:25 pm).
Just before the hour mark, Tanganga was shown the second of his two yellow cards for his high-drama battle with Wilfried Zaha and then his miss-timed challenge on Jordan Ayew.
Tottenham still managed to fight on after Tanagan’s red, but 15 minutes from time, Davies handled in the penalty area following a Connor Gallagher cross, which was put away by Zaha, and that’s when the floodlights opened.
Scholes thinks there was no doubt in the penalty being awarded, which opened the scoring, as he had some harsh words for Spurs.
“Definite handball,” said Scholes. “Stupid really to put his hand out there waiting for it.
“Well-taken by Zaha. But I think Palace deserved the win. I thought they were the better team. The more aggressive team. Tackled better. And more quality.
“Look at that performance, I know they have had a great start, but it could be a long season for them (Spurs).”

Prior to this game, Spurs hadn’t dropped a single point under Nuno Espirito Santo, nor had they conceded a goal.
But it all went wrong for them at Selhurst Park, from not being able to play their strongest XI, injuries, red cards and that first defeat.
Davinson Sanchez was absent before Saturday’s game, Eric Dier had to limp off with what looking like a worrying injury and now Tanganga is suspended.
With Dier, he had started the new Premier League season in a pretty strong fashion.
And if he had continued those performances during these next few weeks then he probably would have got a knock on the door from Gareth Southgate again.
