Liverpool have been encouraged to abandon their plan to sign Jude Bellingham.

Cody Gakpo to Anfield is taking all the shine right now after the Reds agreed a deal to sign the PSV Eindhoven star.

But Bellingham remains firmly on Liverpool’s wishlist and Jurgen Klopp is reported by – as covered by HITC Sport – to have told FSG to lodge a £132 million offer for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

Of course, Enzo Fernandez is now on the Merseyside club’s radar too, with HITC Sport doing a profile on the player earlier on Wednesday.

And former Liverpool star Hamann believes that spending nine figures on a 19-year-old is too risky, encouraging his old side to sign two midfielders instead of Bellingham.

He told Stadium Astro: “If you can sign Bellingham for £140 million or £150 million – a stupid amount of money – he’s an exceptional player don’t get me wrong, but I think he still has to find his position. It might make sense to bring two players in, maybe for less money, so that’d be my strategy. I wouldn’t go all in for Bellingham. I think it’s too much of a risk for such a young player.”

Is this good advice from Hamann? Hmm, not exactly.

Yes, Bellingham is going to cost somebody an absolute fortune very soon, but only because the Liverpool target is worth it.

The former Germany international may not be an admirer but, at 19, this is an insanely good footballer and one who’s going to get a lot better.

He’ll cost a bomb, but over the coming years we might be looking back on the transfer fee and thinking it’s a bargain.
