German midfielder Leon Goretzka has emerged as one of Europe’s most in demand stars.

Goretzka starred at the Confederations Cup in the summer and is expected to feature at the Russia 2018 World Cup.

The Mirror report Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race for the dynamic midfielder, claiming that they will rival Arsenal in the race.

Tottenham have a number of top quality midfielders already, but concerns over the future of Mousa Dembele could force their hand.

The 30-year-old Belgian has been reduced to a bit part player this season as he struggles with an ongoing foot injury and has sat on the bench for several of their biggest games.

Mousa Dembele of Tottenham in action during the pre-season match between Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

Goretzka, just 22, has been scouted by Tottenham ‘several times’ and would be a terrific replacement for Dembele.

He has four goals in nine games this season, and six in 12 at international level for Germany.

The Express reported this summer he could fetch a fee of £32 million and while this is a high fee it would be a smart investment from the North London side, especially if Spurs could wrap up a deal before the World Cup.

Signing Goretzka would make the rest of Europe sit up and take notice, while solving the problem question of who will replace Dembele long term before it really becomes a major issue.
